California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ)-sponsored bill, AB 3070, authored by Shirley Weber (D), passed through the California Senate on Sunday. The bill, which previously passed the Assembly and is on its way to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk to be signed, protects potential jurors from being removed on the basis of race. It is a long-awaited step towards ridding the criminal justice system of the scourge of racial bias.
