PENALTIES FOR DRUG DISTRIBUTION IN CA
Punishments for drug trafficking and/or distribution can vary. Possession for sale or purchase for sale of a controlled substance carries up to four years in jail, while possession for sale of any cocaine-based substance carries up to five years in jail. Transportation, importation, furnishing, administrating, or offering for transport any controlled substance may also be punished by up to five years in jail. Dispensing and furnishing prescription drugs is a misdemeanor. Any type of distribution conviction can lead to between $5,000 and $10,000 in fines.
Punishment often depends on the type of drug distributed:
- Marijuana distribution is a felony carrying 2 to 4 years in prison
- Cocaine based drug distribution is a felony carrying 3 to 5 years in jail
